Downe House School

This project provides 80 bed dormitory accommodation for the lower school pupils, along with full time residential dwellings for the school house mistresses. The school site is defined by a mature woodland setting and the brief was to provide boarding houses that built on the domestic forms within the wider site.

Following exploration of a number of aesthetic strategies, a simple arts and craft based vernacular was agreed. Through detailed pre-application consultation, planning consent was granted in December 2013, with The Bush Consultancy continuing to lead the team through the detailed design process to create the tender package, which incorporated proposals to meet the BREEAM Excellent planning consent requirements. In addition, The Bush Consultancy have progressed internal refurbishment projects for existing dormitory house and also submitted completion proposals for the new Founder Centre.
